Inspiration: Preston House, Venice, California
The Preston House of designer, builder and artist Mario Romano equals in its architectural language a calligraphy or a brush stroke. Inspired by Katsushika Hokusais’ ‘The great wave’, the structure of the building rises up like a wave about to break onto the viewer. At the same time, the curved lines of the roof make the house look very friendly and inviting. It looks more like a fascinating and beautiful tube wave than a dangerous monster wave.
A part of all Mario Romano projects is that he always pushes the limits of what is feasible. At Preston House many parts of flooring, wall cladding and facade were individually shaped by state of the art CNC techniques. This was the only way to model the inspiring forms and structures of nature, while creating artful 3D wall cladding and flooring elements. At different places in the house, Romano took advantage of the characteristics of Resysta. For the garage, wall cladding and flooring he trusted the durable, water-resistant, weatherproof and UV-resistant material (Provider: Simona).
With the Preston House, Mario Romano created a veritable and habitable work of art. Each detail of this unique house is well thought out – each form and materiality being perfectly complementary.

Summer garden

The jury has reached its verdict: After several days of assessing thousands of products from all over the world, the Resysta Universal Performance Board received the distinction “Red Dot”. With the UPB, Resysta has created an outstanding product that the expert committee for the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2017 awarded the internationally sought-after seal of quality.
Universal Performance Boards made of Resysta are 100% water-resistant and can be handled like wood - just mill, cut, sand, screw nail, staple or bond it. The material Resysta is the world’s only natural fibre material that equals tropical wood in characteristics and materiality without the need to cut down any tree. It consists of approx. 60% rice husks and is 100% recyclable.

The fire rating of products made of Resysta is normally B2 (normal combustibility). But depending on the compound used, level B1 can be reached (high fire resistance). E.g. the facade profiles from Salamander Outdoor are certified as E (highly flame resistant) according to DIN EN 13501-1 (B-S2,d0). Simowood boards from Simona reached the highest fire rating level for marine shipbuilding – an IMO-certificate. Therefore the material can be used for cruise ships. Suitable compounds for production are provided by Ineos (www.ineos.com) and Polymer-Chemie (www.polymer-chemie.de).
